About College

Sant Mela Singh College of Education was established in the Year 2003 A.D, to Commemorate the bicentenary of establishment of Shromani Dera-Sant Pura,Nangali Sahib, Poonch (J&K) by Sant Mela Singh Ji in the year 1803 A.D. The College was thus named after the founder of the Dera. The College is run under the aegis of Sant Manjit Singh Trust – Digiana Jammu. Sant Manjit Singh Ji is the present Mahant Sahib of the Dera and is the Sole Trustee of the above said Trust.

As the Education is spreading at fast rate in J&K state and there is demand of trained graduates to cater to the needs of the educational institutions, Sant Manjit Singh Ji with his vision and Zeal to serve humanity, felt necessity of opening College of Education as a gesture of goodwill to help the Education system in the State. He dedicated this college to the memory of the bicentenary celebrations of the establishment of Dera and named it after Sant Mela Singh Ji who established this Dera (Abode of Sants) at Poonch in year 1803 A.D. Thus Sant Mela Singh College of Education was established in the Year 2003 at Digiana-Jammu.

The College has been included in the list of Colleges prepared under section 2(f) of UGC Act of 1956, inclusion of New Colleges Vide No.F.8 – 223/2006 (CPP-1) of Sept. 2006. The College is affiliated to University of Jammu, Jammu and is recognized by the Govt. Vide Order No. HE/Recog/Pvt.Instt./18/B.Ed./2006 Dated: 24-07-2006.

The College faculty comprises highly qualified, experienced and professionally competent teachers. The College has well equipped spacious Class Rooms, Science Lab., Computer Lab., Audio Visual Room, Girls Common Room with Wash Room, Boys Common Room with Wash Room, well furnished Staff Room, Multipurpose Hall, Library and a Canteen. Apart from the above, there are well maintained lawns and playground in the College. Water point equipped with water cooler, aqua guard, water pump (immersed) and electric generator are in place for catering to the demands of water supply and electricity.

The Sole Trustee has constituted a Committee to manage the affairs of the College. The Managing Committee includes outstanding Citizens, Legal experts, Educationists and administrators of long standing. The University of Jammu also appoints members who are professors of the university on the Management Committee for a period of two years.

The College is built on an area of 8 Kanals and 13 Marlas of land registered in the name of the Sole Trustee - Sant Manjit Singh Ji. The Girls Hostel of the College and play grounds are on the adjoining piece of land which measures about 10 Kanals and is also registered in the name of the Sole Trustee. There is adequate infrastructure available in the College. The plinth area of the College buildings is about 985 Sq.meters or about 10,602 Sq.ft. The College building has two storeys in the Northern and Western Wings (Plinth Area 8352 Sq.ft.) whereas Eastern Wing has three storeyed structure (Plinth Area 2250 Sq.ft.). It is all R.C.C. structure.The college Canteen is housed in a separate building. There are seven class rooms with glass chalkboards and lecture stands. These rooms are on ground and 1st floor of Northern Wing and 1st floor of Eastern Wing. The floor area of each room is 645 Sq.ft. (4 rooms), 614 Sq.ft.(1 room) 1st floor, (Northern Wing). Two rooms of 609 Sq.ft. are on 1st floor (Eastern Wing). In this Very (Eastern Wing) there is Computer room with 400 Sq.ft. floor areas. There is Audio Visual room in the vicinity of Computer Lab., which has floor area of 357 Sq.ft. Multipurpose hall is present on ground floor of Eastern Wing. Its floor area is 2250 Sq.ft.

The College has metalled roads & a parking site within the campus. Two motorable approach roads to the College, each from eastern & western sides are connected with the main road. There are well planned pathways laid on the campus.

Affiliation

Sant Manjit Singh Trust Applied to UGC.Bhadur Shah Zafar Marg Delhi for inclusion in the list of Colleges Prepared under Section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956. As per their letter no F.8-223/2006(CPP-1) dated Sept. 2006, Sant Mela Singh College has been included in the list of colleges prepared under section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956 under the head Non-Govt Colleges teaching upto Bachelor's Degree.

Sant Mela Singh College of Education is affiliated to University of Jammu for the award of B.Ed degree vide official order no.CDC/2006/2046-55 dated:-31-07-06 where by extension has been granted for the academic session 2018/2020. As such the institution is conducting teaching and training programmes strictly in accordance with the course programmes and syllabi approved by Faculty of Education, University of Jammu under the provisions of B.Ed. statutes. Further, all the students admitted to SMSCOE shall be bound by rules and regulations prescribed/framed by University of Jammu for the students of Affiliated Private Colleges with respect to attendance and examinations, promotions and detention etc. under the relevant B.Ed statutes.
